Mimmo Paladino, one of the main representatives of the Transavanguardia movement, created a 4 meter high cross, designed to adorn the first ever World Children's Day.
Known as the “Cross of Joy,” the artwork is decorated with images that represent both Christian culture and fairy tales.

Paladino's “Cross of Joy” will be unveiled during the opening ceremony of the two-day celebration, which will take place in Rome on May 25 and 26. Speaking about the event, Paladino said that “It is a great honor for me to create the first 'Cross of Joy' in history.” He stressed that the work is especially aimed at children, “because they are the real stars of this event” and that his decision to mix elements of Christian culture with fairy tale motifs is “intended to stimulate both their imagination and ours.”
