Pope Francis received the President of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona, in audience at the Vatican on Monday.
After the audience, Mr. Abinader Corona met with Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, accompanied by Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
Good relations between the Holy See and the Dominican Republic
A brief statement issued by the Holy See Press Office said the discussions at the Secretariat of State were “cordial” and noted that appreciation was expressed “for the good bilateral relations” which will be further strengthened .
“The parties emphasized the valuable contribution offered to the country by the Church, particularly in the educational field, as well as in the field of charity,” the statement said, adding that the conversation then focused on various themes of mutual interest, such as migration and the regional situation, “renewing mutual commitment to promote the common good of the Dominican population”.
