Archbishop Martins confers pontifical honors on Amangbo, Akpani, Nwanze, Otedola and Britto

The Catholic Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos, Most Reverend (Dr) Alfred Adewale Martins, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, conferred pontifical honors on five lay faithful of the archdiocese at the Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos.

The winners were recognized by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, for their dedication and exceptional service to the Church in different apostolates. Papal knights and medalists include Mr. Peter Amangbo, who was invested as a Knight of Saint Gregory, as well as MM. Walter Akpani and Peter Nwanze, who were honored as Knights of New Year.

For their part, Dame Christine ‘Doja Otedola and Mr. Julius Olufunsho Britto, were invested as medalists in the Pro Ecclesia and Pontifice category. According to the Archbishop: “These ladies and gentlemen distinguished themselves in their faith and morals and contributed immensely to the growth of the Church and society.

The awards are a testament to their dedication, hard work and commitment to living their faith. The investiture ceremony, celebrated on the same day as the Eucharistic celebration of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, attracted many faithful and sympathizers from all walks of life.
