The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza says at least 141 people have been killed in airstrikes in recent days.
On Saturday, an Israeli airstrike near Khan Younis killed 90 people and wounded 300 others.
The densely populated area of Mawasi, where the attack took place, had been designated by the Israeli military as a safe zone for displaced civilians.
The United Nations refugee agency (UNRWA) estimates that around 1.5 million people have sought refuge there. Many Palestinians sought refuge in the area after the start of the Israeli offensive on Rafah in May.
On Sunday, Hamas denied reports that it had called off indirect ceasefire negotiations with Israel following the Khan Younis attack.
Israel has reportedly targeted the head of Hamas’ military wing, Mohammed Deif, as one of the masterminds of the October 7 attack on Israel.
At a press conference, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “the war will not end until Israel has achieved all of its objectives.”
As things stand, this conflict between Israel and Hamas has left 38,345 dead in Gaza, mostly civilians, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. On the Israeli side, 1,195 people died – also mostly civilians – in the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said that Israeli attacks on Syrian soil could lead to serious repercussions.
Israeli strikes in Damascus left one Syrian soldier dead and caused considerable damage in the targeted areas.
